It was raining today, it had been raining all day that day. And a few days before that. But the days before weren't like today, everyone stayed inside and played games, they watched TV and movies, laughed and smiled. But today, everyone was sad. Nobody smiled, no one laughed, no one did anything that day. Elijah Clyde sat at his window looking out at the rain thinking about why that was. Why was everyone so sad? Did something bad happen? It must've been really bad since it was even making his sister sad. She rarely ever frowned! She always had a smile on her face even in the worst of times! So why was everyone acting like this? His brother didn't even come out of his room today. That was even stranger. The three-year-old stared and thought about this all day.

"Elijah?" the boy turned his head to see his mother, she was sad too. He could feel it "yes Mommy?" Elijah said turning fully around to face his mother "get dressed we're leaving" leaving? But it's raining. They never go anywhere when it's raining. "Where are we going, Mommy?" "we're going to a graveyard" what was that? Elijah had heard some people talk about those, but he could never find out what it was "what's that Mommy?" his mom seemed to be even more saddened than before when he asked that "it's...um a.....place. Where people go to uh.......'sleep'" why can't they just sleep in bed? isn't that what beds are for? "Why can't they just sleep in bed Mommy?"
His mother sighed softly "it's a different kind of sleep, Eli. It's one you...." she was about to cry but then took a breath and managed to hold back her tears, why is Mommy crying? What kind of sleep can make other people cry? Elijah thought a slight frown on his lips "it's a kind of sleep y-you don't w-w-wake up fro-o-om" his mother managed to choke out. Elijah was very confused, what made this kind of sleep so different? And how can you sleep and not wake up? "Hurry Elijah, we have to be there soon" "okay Mommy" Elijah got down from his bed by the
\window and got his clothes from his mother.

It was like the clothes his father wears when he takes his mother out to special places, it was just smaller. "You can put it on by yourself right?" Elijah nodded "but I think I'm going to need help with this" Elijah pointed to the black tie "when you're done tell me, okay?" the brunette nodded and his mother left the room. He kept wondering about what his mom told him, it was just so strange and confusing. But maybe he'll understand when he get's older? Yeah maybe, that's what everyone says when they can't explain things to kids his age. "'You'll understand when you get older'" Elijah said copying his older brother.

"Mommy! I'm done!" Elijah yelled and his mother came through the door putting on the tie "there, now come on" when he went downs stairs he saw Violet crying and his big brother Arthur trying to calm her down, he didn't even see his other brother and his father was sitting down at the table holding his head crying. His dad never cried. No one in his family cried, and when they did it wasn't this bad. It made Elijah want to cry. "M-Mommy? What's wrong with everyone?" Elijah asked holding his mother's hand tightly. "It's a sad day today" "why?" his mother didn't answer, she just whipped a tear.

Elijah held onto his mother's hand while she walked over to his father "Matthew" she tapped his shoulder "y-yes" he said whipping tears from his eyes "it's time to go" he nodded taking a breath and getting up, whipping invisible dirt from his clothes. Elijah never understood why people did that. "Let's go, guys. Arthur go get your brother" Arthur left Violet saying something Elijah couldn't hear to her before he left to go upstairs, when he came back down with his other brother, Anthony, Elijah was frozen. Anothny was crying....?

But he never cried! For all of Elijah's three years of life, he has never ever, seen Anthony cry. Not. One. Bit. "Come on Eli" his mother tugged lightly on Elijah's arm and he followed. His mother helped him into the buster seat and everyone piled into the car, no one spoke the whole ride. There were quiet sobs here and there but no one said anything. It was like everyone died but was somehow still living, everyone just seemed dead inside, the only noise was the passing cars (which were not many mind you) and the pitter patter of the rain on the car windows.

Elijah held onto his teddy bear tight, squeezing it harder than he has ever had before. Hugging his bear always made everything seem a little brighter, even if it was only a sliver of light in the darkness. The car came to a stop and everyone got out. Elijah saw a huge yard with strange rocks sticking out of the ground, there were flowers around the stones, even some toys, and balloons saying 'Happy Birthday!' or something like that. Everything was still though. The only sound that could be heard was the rain. "Come on Elijah," His brother Arthur said taking his hand and dragging him into the yard. He clutched his bear not wanted to loosen his grip, not even a bit.

They got close to a group of people wearing black and white, some wore other colors but they were darker ones. Everything seemed so dead. And it scared Elijah. Then everyone stopped walking and there was silence, only faint cries and sniffs were heard. Elijah then saw his cousins! And some of his other family members! He felt happier, but it was only for a second. They were crying or on the verge of tears, and if not that they looked miserable. The cousins that Elijah spotted first were Raven he looked the saddest along with his other cousin (Raven's brother) William, but where was Tylor? And his Aunt? And Aiden? Why was everyone here but them?

There were three black boxes that had really pretty flowers on them, everyone was crying while looking at them. What was in those boxes? Why was everyone crying about them? Was something in them? Elijah looked to William who looked at him sadly, but he looked a little confused. Or was Elijah reading him wrong? There was a man that came and said good things about Tylor, his Aunt, and her husband but they were nowhere to be seen! Elijah didn't question it, it had been a very confusing, sad day, and he could ask all his questions when he gets home. After the man finished talking, people came and put the boxes into the ground, and then everyone left. The only people that were there were Elijah's family and Aiden's side of the family. They talked about his absent family members like they were never going to see them again.

"Will?" Elijah said tapping his cousin "hey Eli" William said with a weak smile "do you know what's going on? Like why is everyone crying, and what was in those boxes, and where are Tylor, Auntie Amanda, and you're dad" the black haired boy began to cry "I-I don't know, t-t-there wa-as a scary man and he c-c-came inside and s-s-started yelling. And t-t-then they j-j-just fell and b-b-blood was everywhere a-and Tylor tried to h-hide me but he f-f-found us! And--" Elijah hugged him. He hugged him tighter than he had hugged anyone before, by now William was sobbing and Elijah wanted to cry too. "I-I-I was so sacred" William said through tears. Elijah wanted to cry too, he was so confused about why everyone was so sad today. And he had so many questions but little answers. But he couldn't cry he had to make everyone feel better
When someone is sad you have to do everything in your power to help them cheer up and not be so sad anymore Elijah thought and smiled pulling away from his cousin "if talking about what happened makes you cry, then don't talk about it. You don't have to tell me if it makes you sad" And then he stopped crying and smiled "T-Thank you" "you're welcome!"
